Home Health:

Many times the decision regarding home care, home healthcare or assisted living services must be made quickly.

Being knowledgeable about your options and planning ahead will allow you to make the best decision for all involved.

Home health agencies can be defined by the level of services they offer.

Non-medical home health agencies differ from companion type services in that they offer an additional level of assistance in the home. In addition to meal preparation, light housekeeping, errand services and recreational services a non-medical home health agency may also offer hands on personal care services such as bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, mobility and toileting. These types of services may be reimbursed by long-term care insurance but not typically covered by Medicare/Medicaid. This type of agency is considered non-medical in that it is not providing the skilled care that a licensed health agency provides.

A licensed home health agency provides skilled home care that may include IV therapy, wound care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy or respiratory therapy. Most home health agencies have as well home health aides to provide personal care services such as bathing, grooming and dressing assistance. Many times the services provided by a licensed home health agency may be reimbursed through private insurance or Medicare/Medicaid.
